As we all drift off into the Cloud, what exactly is Web 3.0? Does the web co enable a mushrooming Culture of Narcissism? I’ve recently been collaborating with Don Marti on a social game that integrates with Twitter, called Heist. I’ve been closely observing the behaviour and demographics of web gamers (and other web users) and have found some interesting things. Where is the web headed and what can we do to stake our claims and make our statements? How does this relate to conferences such as BIL and TED?

About the Speaker
I’ve been involved with computers since 1976, when I wrote my first program in BASIC on an HP minicomputer. Since then, I’ve watched with fascination as the technology has continually evolved on an increasing trajectory. My role in the industry has varied, from mainframe operations, to real time control systems, to technical writing and training and developing specialized software and system infrastructure for Fortune 500 clients. I’ve written articles for the O’Reilly Network and in 2007 had the privilege of presenting at OSCON. Most of my work in recent years has been a strange combination of management consulting and developing database driven web sites of the LAMP stack variety. Like most of us, I’m enamored with the social impact of the web and have been doing a lot of web watching along with development of some custom web analytics.

Did you know that according to a 2004 Global Study on Women, Beauty and Well-Being, over 50% of women say their body disgusts them? It is also interesting to note that after viewing images of female fashion models, seven out of ten women felt more depressed and angry than prior to viewing the images. (Source: Psychology Today)

Studies have also shown that low self-esteem “is a social epidemic that leads to introversion, a withdrawal from normal life and a waste of potential.”

I’m Sierra Sullivan, founder of The RAY and we’re on a mission to transform the way women feel about themselves. Through various media platforms in the areas of print, web, social networking, and live events we deliver inspirational and educational content aimed to raise women’s self esteem and elevate them to live their highest potential.

We believe it’s time to transform the inadequate concept of beauty that current media promotes while healing the consequent negative relationship women have to themselves.

About the Speaker
Born into a family of 4 daughters, Sierra learned early on, the importance of sisterhood. After the untimely death of her mother, Sierra found herself on an accelerated spiritual path towards a conscious and holistic lifestyle. Living in the image driven city of Los Angeles brought Sierra to a deeper awareness of her struggles with self-esteem and self-acceptance. After much introspection, she resolved to change the idealistic perception of women by creating a magazine that dealt with women’s issues from a real and empowering perspective.

Seven productive and insightful years later, The RAY has become a multi-faceted organization fueled by a mission to revolutionize media for women. The RAY is a personal development company focused on the message of self-love. On a mission to transform the way women feel about themselves, we provide virtual and physical space for women to connect with an influential and conscious community. We offer our readers and clients inspiration and encouragement to live more authentic and empowered lives through our uplifting publications, empowering events, coaching services and conscious community connections.
